Client Expansion
When GESHA Coffee Co. came to us in 2022, they had four trade mark registrations in Australia, listed under the Trade marks heading above, that had been registered since 2016.
The client wished to have those four trade marks registered in Singapore because they were looking to enter into a franchise agreement with a company there.
Given the proximity of Singapore and Malaysia, it is prudent to file trade mark applications in both of those territories when filing in one, which the client decided to take our advice and do.
How we helped
We filed four international trade mark applications each in Singapore and Malaysia, mirroring the four Australian trade mark registrations, therefore eight trade mark applications in total, listed under the Trade marks’ status heading above.
The Singaporean trade marks office raised issues with the two GCC word marks in classes 30 and 35 and in class 43. The 2 GCC logo marks in classes 30 and 35 and in class 43 moved through Singapore’s trade mark application process without issue.
The Malaysian trade marks office raised issues with the four GCC trade mark applications in that territory.
We engaged the services of trade marks agents in Singapore and Malaysia for territory-specific advice and local representation.
The two GCC logo applications moved through the Singaporean trade mark application process without issue and we had those trade marks registered in May 2023.
We are currently working with the Malaysian trade marks agent to register the four trade mark applications in that country.
We love this client’s coffee and we have had A LOT of it!
